A Golden-Hour Love Story at Headlands Beach in Mentor, Ohio
AUG. 3RD 2026
Some locations give you a beautiful backdrop. Others give you an entire story. Ramneet and Harry's love-story session at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor, Ohio gave us everything from quiet portraits beneath enormous trees to warm evening light through the dune grass, movement along the boardwalk and a Lake Erie sunset to finish the night. Because we captured the session in both photo and video, we were able to focus on more than individual poses. The goal was to create something that felt like the two of them — relaxed, romantic, colorful and full of movement.
Beginning Beneath the Trees
We started away from the shoreline in the shaded park areas surrounding Headlands Beach. The mature trees and softer evening light gave the first part of the session a completely different mood from what would come later near the water. Ramneet's marigold-yellow outfit brought an incredible amount of warmth into the green surroundings, and the woven charpai became a simple but meaningful visual element for the opening portraits. Rather than rushing toward the beach immediately, starting here gave the session room to build.

Letting Movement Tell the Story
One of the biggest advantages of combining photography and video is that the session doesn't have to revolve around holding poses. Walking, turning, laughing, pulling each other closer and allowing fabric to move in the wind often creates stronger photographs — and much stronger video — than trying to manufacture every moment. As we moved into the taller grass and dunes at Headlands, the session became much more cinematic. Ramneet's dupatta gave us a natural source of movement and color, especially once the sun dropped lower.

See the Story in Motion
Photography freezes the individual moments. Film lets you experience everything between them — the movement, laughter, wind, changing light and little interactions that happen while we're shooting.
Golden Light Through the Dunes
As the sun dropped lower, Headlands gave us one of our favorite looks from the entire session. The combination of dune grass, backlight and flowing fabric completely changed the visual character of the photographs. Ramneet is standing in the grass with her dupatta opened wide behind her while the sun shines directly through the fabric. Harry is lower in the frame and nearly silhouetted. It feels less like a traditional couples portrait and more like an editorial image.

Ending the Evening at Lake Erie
The final part of the session moved onto the shoreline. By this point, the formal looks had given way to something more relaxed, and the light over Lake Erie had softened into pinks, oranges and muted blues. Headlands Beach works especially well for sessions like this because one location can give us wooded park space, grasses, boardwalks and a wide open shoreline without the gallery feeling visually repetitive.

Quiet Moments Matter Too
Not every photograph has to be dramatic. Some of our favorite images from sessions like this are the ones where very little appears to be happening. Ramneet and Harry sit together reading from a red leather-bound book, tucked into each other on the blanket. It is quieter than the boardwalk photographs or the backlit portraits, but that is exactly why it works. A good love-story session should have both.

A Love Story in Mentor, Ohio
Ramneet and Harry's session is a great example of why we love photographing couples around Mentor, Cleveland, Akron, Canton and throughout Northeast Ohio. You don't need an elaborate set or dozens of staged poses. A beautiful location, changing light, room to move and a couple willing to enjoy the experience can give us everything we need. And when photography and video are created together, the final result becomes more than a collection of portraits. It becomes a small film and visual record of what this part of your story actually felt like.
